I was wondering if anyone understood this comic.

I get the 2001 reference, of course, but what’s GLaDOS?

  1. I’d never heard of it before, but according to Wikipedia it stands for “Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System.” It’s from the video game Portal, which I’d also never heard of before.

  2. Thanks for the link, Bill! From their description, the similarities between GLaDOS and HAL are apparent.

Of course, explaining renders the joke unfunny, but I understand where he was coming from at least.

As a side note, Jonathan Coulton, one of my current favorite musicians, wrote one of the songs used in the game. Seems right up his alley.

  3. Jonathan Coulton is awesome! That alone might make the game worth checking out.

  4. I just finished the game “Portal” this weekend.

Get it. Get it now. You will love it, even if you are not a big fan of first-person shooters.

Oh, and you will want the song. Yes you will You can buy the MP3 for 89 cents from Amazon.com. Or you can follow instructions here to (legally) get the MP3 from the game’s content.
